Today we are telling you the story of a very special table, born from the collaboration between our company and an American customer who distributes our products in the United States.

The idea was to create a unique piece, entirely made in Italy, combining elegance and functionality. The main challenge was to create a shark skin (shagreen) of more than one square meter with a single central eye, to be used to finish the upper suspended element of the table.

By collaborating with our invaluable craftsmen, we were able to create this large shagreen print, positioning the central eye with millimeter precision. On the other hand, the underside of the sizable table was spray-coated in liquid metal with a special patina and scratching that gives it a worn look. Manganese was used for this project, one of our darkest metals, with its deep yet elegant grayness.

The second challenge was related to the weight and rigidity of the table. With a top of about two square meters and supported by five feet, the risk was that the top would not be stable if made from a sheet of metal, due to possible stresses during cutting and machining.

To overcome this problem, we opted for a sheet of outdoor HPL, CNC machined and then coated in liquid metal. Even with a slight weight reduction, we gained a degree of elasticity necessary for the perfect leveling of the table.

The end result is a slim but elegant product with contrasting finishes of both texture and gloss. Our client offers it in the catalog in several variations, in addition to the manganese already mentioned, also in antique bronze, brass, copper and tin.
