Innovation and Style: polystyrene and metal in new architectural design
We find ourselves in the historic centre of a small Florentine village, which is home to Cambio, a recently conceived cultural centre that, as its name suggests, is a promoter of change through art and culture.
We at Innometal Italia fully recognise ourselves in this vision. We do not perceive change as a threat; rather, we view it as a catalyst for continuous renewal and the acceptance of the challenges that arise on a daily basis.
The project
In this instance, Polistudio Design was engaged to devise aesthetically pleasing entrance portals for Cambio’s facilities. As previously discussed, the entrance is as fundamental as the interior, influencing first impressions and anticipating the experience of those using the facilities and participating in activities.
In order to achieve this, a collaboration was formed between Polistudio Design and Innometal Italia, which had previously proved successful. This partnership enabled the transformation of an unassuming entrance into a modern and attractive one. The combination of polystyrene for the structure and liquid metal for the cladding provides a multitude of possibilities, allowing any space to be aesthetically decorated.
Processing
In particular, the polystyrene structure of all three entrance portals was manufactured with a smooth and appropriately stiffened base. Subsequently, it was subjected to a bronze metallisation treatment and a burnishing process to achieve a more dynamic effect. Naturally, the materials used are suitable for outdoor use, weatherproof and durable.
Our strength
One of the principal benefits of this merging process is the ability to create large structures from lightweight materials, thereby circumventing the displacement issues and high costs typically associated with the use of solid metal.
This collaboration has demonstrated, once again, that innovative design solutions which are both practical and accessible can be found.
By continuing in this vein, we hope to take on new challenges and contribute to the creation of inspiring and transformative spaces.
